Swinkly Cottage in Eggleston, Barnard Castle is in the heart of the Northern Dales. Lying between Northumberland and the Yorkshire Dales the area is one of England's largest areas of outstanding natural beauty. The area is a mixture of mountains and moors, woodlands and valleys. Indeed the 'Northern Dales' are often described as "England's last wilderness".
The charming village of Eggleston itself has two pubs; The Moorcock Inn and The Three Tunns both of which serve great food and a range of local beers. Eggleston village also has its very own tourist attraction; Eggleston Hall Gardens.
